Musician, Videographer, Music Industry Professional

Anna Balou is a 24-year-old musician, videographer and aspiring music industry professional from the Netherlands. Anna is inspired by the Dutch alternative rock-scene, her family and bands such as Queens of the Stone Age and Wilco. She's been involved in the Dutch music scene since she was just a kid through her father being a guitarist, songwriter and producer. Growing up with a professional recording studio around the corner meant an early spark for music and all things surrounding it. Anna started playing in bands when she was 17 and continued to grow as a figure in the local music scene throughout the years. In 2022, she was taken in by Bert Pijpers from Continental Record Services to learn all about running an indie record label and booking bands. After discovering her talent for getting things done for the musicians around her, she decided to start at the Herman Brood Academie to become a true music industry professional.

So, what about balou?

It's actually my middle name. I'm named after Baloo the Bear from Jungle Book because my parents liked him so much. Pretty cool if you ask me... But uh, who am I anyway?
I grew up in quite the creative, cultured family. I come from a long line of Dutch professors that obsess over language, poems and books - I think that goes as far as a couple of generations back - until my dad was born. He is a professional musician, producer and songwriter. I grew up in a house with access to about 40 or 50 instruments to choose from, ranging from sitars to a hammond organ. That didn't mean that I cared back then, though. It was just my dad's job. Still, I've been playing backstage, running around venues and sleeping on strangers' jackets in cloakrooms since I was a baby, basically. So I guess it was only a matter of time before I too finally decided to start playing an instrument.

Videography and editing has been a passion of mine for a while. I do this kind of work for a small fee, because I know that upcoming artists don't have a budget for a big production. Through editing and unique storylines, I try to make captivating videos to match the artists' sound and wishes.
